China and New Zealand have long been close trading partners. Meat is one of New Zealand's main exports to China. Angus cattle is known as one of the best quality beef. In China, the beef industry is still in its infancy. One Chinese meida visits an enterprise in Shandong Province that has imported thousands of Angus cattle from New Zealand.
Zhaokai Li is the manager of Shuangyang ranch in Weifang, a city in eastern China's Shandong Province. The ranch he manages holds more than 3000 Angus cattle imported from New Zealand.
Zhaokai Li says that "Weifang city Angus cattle have many advantages. The first is adaptability to roughage, the second is early sexual maturity, so they can be bred earlier, and the third is higher meat yield."
The high-end beef farming industry is still in its infancy in China. Agricultural cooperation between China and New Zealand is helping change that. Shengwei Group is a leading enterprise in China's Angus beef cattle breeding industry.
Weifang, Shandong Province "The chairman of Shengwei Group went to New Zealand to research the beef cattle industry and reached a cooperation agreement with Austrex, a large exporter of livestock. This year, more than 10,000 Angus cattle have been imported from New Zealand by the Shengwei Group."
Importing Angus cattle also involves exchanges in technology and experience.
Chairman Shengwei Group Sheng Wang says that "New Zealand is a strong animal husbandry country with good technology, management methods and resources. While importing Angus cattle, we have received help and guidance from New Zealand enterprises and experts."
In addition to breeding Angus cattle on its own pastures, Shengwei Group also cooperates with agricultural cooperatives and farmers, allowing them to raise the cattle for the enterprise. An initiative that's creating new sources of income for local people. China's government is also lending its support.
The Director of Weifang Animal Husbandry Development Center Fandong Meng says that "We support the state-owned enterprise and leading enterprise to jointly establish a joint venture company, which is responsible for importing Angus cattle from New Zealand and other countries."
Shengwei Group has been promoting the cultivation, breeding and promotion of Angus cattle, and conducts research in areas including cattle breeding and epidemic prevention, to help promote the beef production industry in China. Zhou Yixin, CGTN, Weifang, Shandong Province. (CGTN)
